Mayo came through a late scare against Louth this afternoon to book their second win of the All-Ireland SFC group stage on a 0-14 to 1-10 scoreline in Castlebar.

After their impressive victory over Kerry a fortnight ago, Kevin McStay’s side looked to two more points in the bag until Louth grabbed lifeline with a brilliantly worked Conall McKeever goal which left a point between the teams with a minute remaining in injury-time.

Points from Jordan Flynn, Ryan O’Donoghue (free) and Stephen Coen helped the hosts to lead by 0-7 to 0-4 at the halfway stage and they’d keep the margin at three midway through the second period.

Louth came very close to finding the net after five minutes of the restart but Colm Reape was able to turn Leonard Grey’s close-range effort over the bar instead.

Although Aidan O’Shea’s free made it a four-point game in the 68th minute, Mickey Harte’s charges stayed in the fight until the end and gave the favourites an almighty scare with McKeever’s goal late on but couldn’t snatch a result in the end.
