Meath's most decorated hurler Steven Clynch has announced his retirement after 15 years of service with the Royal County.
The Kilmessan club man scored the winning point in the Royals' extra time victory over Antrim in the Christy Ring Cup final last year and is recognised by many as his county's best ever player in the small ball code.
As well as his Ring Cup success, Clynch won five Kehoe Cup medals and a Nicky Rackard Cup during his inter-county career and played for Leinster and Ireland in the Railway Cup and Shinty competition's respectively.
He twice captained Meath during the 2011 and 2008 seasons and was selected on the Christy Ring Cup Champions 15 on three different occasions (2013, 2012 and 2007).
Clynch revealed his decision on Twitter yesterday and also indicated that he intends to continue lining-out for his native Kilmessan for "many more" seasons to come.
TweetIt's been an honour to wear the @MeathGAA hurling jersey over the last 15 years. Thanks to all management & players past & present who made it possible. I want to wish Nick and the team all the best in 2018. I look forward to many more years hurling with @KilmessanHC.
