O'Donovan Rossa club notes

The O'Donovan Rossa U21 footballers annexed their fourth A county title following their three point win against South East champions Carrigaline last Sunday afternoon in Páirc Uí Rinn on a 0-14 to 1-8 scoreline.
There is a full report on this hard fought replay victory on page 33 in this week's sports section. Rob McCarthy was the captain of the team. The club would like to record their appreciation for the trojan work undertaken by coaching quartet Ger O'Brien, Joe O'Driscoll, Pat Gilmore and Shane Crowley who succcessfully inspired their charges to the club's first U21 county title success in twenty-one years.

The U21 footballers enjoyed a marvellous campaign, playing a free-flowing brand of entertaining football since they opened their South-West championship campaign with a hard fought victory against Carbery Rangers.
Skibb subsequently went on to defeat Dohenys, Castlehaven and Bandon following a dramatic final encounter played in Clonakilty to clinch the South West championship crown for the first time since 2004. Skibb then claimed the scalp of Seandun champions Nemo Rangers and Imokilly champions Midleton before their enthralling final win over Carrigaline last Sunday.
The fourth round senior championship tie against Castlehaven has been scheduled to be played in John William Gould Park, Leap, on Saturday August 6th. This game will have a 7.30pm kick-off.
The senior footballers played out an entertaining draw against Nemo Rangers in a Kelleher Shield game played in Capwell last Tuesday evening on a 2-6 to 0-12 scoreline. Colin Crowley and Conor McCarthy notched the Skibb goals.
The junior hurlers resume championship action this Friday evening July 29th, when they play St Oliver Plunkett's in a fourth round clash billed for Ballinacarriga. This game has a 7.30pm throw-in.
The junior B footballers were narrowly defeated by Randal Ógs following a league encounter played in the Rossa Park last Wednesday evening. A very strong Randals team started brightly notching two goals in the opening ten minutes to enable them hold a deserved interval lead. Neville Maher replied with a goal for the home team.
A very young Skibb team produced a strong second half performance notching four successive points per John Bohane, JP Reen, Shane Hurley and John Hayes to reduce the deficit but the Ballinacarriga based team held on to secure a hard fought triumph. A feature of the game was the outstanding goalkeeping display by James McCarthy who was very good throughout.

The junior B footballers are out in league action again this Saturday afternoon against Tadhg MacCarthaigh. They are fixed to play Kilmeen in the semi-final stages of the championship on Saturday August 13th.
The minor hurlers suffered an emphatic championship defeat against Kilmeen last Monday evening.
