Sixmilebridge could lodge an appeal against their controversial exit from the Clare SHC when the county's CCC meets tonight.

The 'Bridge were eliminated from the Canon Hamilton Cup race on Friday night as a result of the new scoring difference rule which was passed at Congress this year. The new rule states that, where scoring difference is used, it should only apply to the games involving the teams that finish tied. Under the previous method, Sixmilebridge would have qualified for the knockout stages with Crusheen bowing out, but the opposite happened after an injury-time goal from Colm Cleary handed O'Callaghan's Mills a 3-17 to 1-21 win over the 'Bridge which allowed Crusheen to pip them for the second quarter-final place behind Clonlara in Group 2.

The new rule also led to Offaly club Gracefield appealing their placing in their SFC 'B' group to the DRA last week. The appeal was lost, but the Laois-border outfit quickly put the controversy behind them by beating Ballycumber in Saturday's quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Cork will continue to use the old scoring difference rule - which applies if two or more teams finish level on points -  in all championship group matches this year.
