Michael Duignan believes Limerick and Waterford will be going all out to win Sunday's Allianz Hurling League final.

All-Ireland champions Limerick haven't won a league title in 21 years, while Waterford have won just three in their history. Speaking on RTÉ Radio 1's Morning Ireland, Duignan noted how recent league winners have invariably gone on to have successful championship campaigns.

"They are going to be two huge players in the championship," the former Offaly star predicted.

"I think Limerick and Waterford will both come out of Munster this year and will be big challengers for the All-Ireland. National Leagues don't grow on trees. Limerick haven't won since 1997, Waterford won one in 2015.

"Kilkenny have won nine in Brian Cody's term and gone on to win 11 All-Irelands. It's a big stepping stone to All-Ireland success and I expect Limerick to do it."
