Delight for minor hurlers
July 12, 2010
The Clare minor hurlers are kingpins of Munster and the pride of County Clare after yesterday's 1-16 to 1-11 victory over Waterford. In doing so the Paul Flanagan led side claimed their counties third Munster crown. Appearing in their first final since 1999 the Banner showed no signs of nerves and produced a stunning display to beat the Deise. For the record the other win's came in 1981 (Cork were defeated) and 1989 (at the expense of Limerick) while in 1997 Clare went on to win the All-Ireland minor title after the John Reddan (Sixmilebridge) captained side had previosuly being defeated in the Munster final by Tipperary before going on to beat Antrim, Kilkenny and Galway to become All-Ireland victors. The 1981 side lost out at the semi-final stage to Galway with the 1989 side losing out to a Brian Whelehan inspired Offaly by 2-16 to 1-12 in the final.
