Tomsmith here Cavan Gaels have appointed former county forward Jason O'Reilly as their new senior manager for 2017.
The Belturbet clubman's appointment was confirmed at a meeting last week and sees him take over from former Breffni team mate Anthony Forde, whom he won an Ulster SFC title with back in 1997.
O'Reilly, who steered Lacken to an intermediate title in 2012, oversaw Belturbet's promotion to Division One this past season and takes over a Gaels side which will be eager to make up for their disappointments in 2016, having exited the senior championship prior to its knock-out stages.
Elsewhere, Forde has linked up with former Cavan manager Donal Keogan to oversee Castlerahan's fortunes next season,

Jason is a great man, but i believe he is too nice and quiet to keep order the Gaels. they are v hard managed with a lot of big characters in the squad and appears to be underlying problems in the club
I don't believe the Gaels have that big characters in the hierarchy like they use to have especially since the passing off JJ Reilly. A strong Chairman is what they badly need. Their biggest problem is they don't know their best side and always seem to take half the summer to get their big players fit. If they had a full squad all singing from the same hymn sheet they could be a force. But they need that slaughtneil mentality of never say die attitude. They don't have that this past year or two. Just have a feeling they are all not pulling in the same direction for some reason. But if they got their act together they would be a force again
