Senior/Intermediate/Junior Club Championhips 2016

(Oldest Posts First)

With the Club Championship scene not too far away i thought i would get the ball rolling and see which clubs people think will give their respective Championships a good rattle. Are we thinking about the usual suspects in the Senior Championship? Or will the likes of Lacken finally make the most of their talent. Will Arva walk away with the Intermediate title, or are we looking at 6/7 clubs who could win it? Shannon Gaels look like the strongest in the Junior ranks with a couple of players back into the fold, will anyone challenge them?

I would like to think Cornafean would fancy their chances in the Junior considering their unbeaten in Division 3 and finalists last year.

I think this years Senior Championship will be a tough one to call. Looking at a few of the results in the ACFL League, I see Lacken are flying. Must be a great boost knowing you can hardly foul them in your half with a free kick taker like Raymond Galligan in your team. Seen them and Cootehill drew at the weekend, 3-14 a piece is good scoring from both teams. Knowing these two meet in the championship will make for a good game.
I still reckon the Gaels could turn it on come championship time, Kingscourt going strong also.

Intermediate Championship, it is hard to look by Arva. They are holding their own in Division 1 and should go close.

Junior Championship, I reckon gaelicfooty15 could be right, seen Cornafean playing a couple of times this year and look a good side so reckon they could go close.

Any stand out players over the weekend for any team?

Kingscourt looking very strong in div 1, as too are lacken and cootehill! Cavan gaels haven't hit top speed at all yet so would expect big things from them come championship!

Intermediate is very tight! Arva have only lost one game in div 1 and that was by a point to castlerathan so they will be hard beat! Belturbet, Shercock and Drumlane will have a big say aswell!

Shannon gaels no good! It's between Cornafean, Ballymacugh and mountnugent!

Im gonna say Cavan gaels, Arva and Cornafaen!

Absolutely. Cornafean just went over my head posting that comment. They will have a massive say on the Junior Championship. Really speaking you couldn't look beyond them or Shannon Gaels for the title this year!

I can't Mountnugent doing much in the Championship this year, i seen them play recently and don't really have anything going for them bae Givney. Ballymachugh lack a decent defence to win the title in my opinion. Shannon Gaels with the return of a few lads should go close, if not my bet would be Cornafean as mentioned by the lads above.

Arva obviously the stand out team in the Intermediate Championship at the minute, but as always it is very tight to call. As any number of clubs will believe they could go close. Belturbet, Drumlane, Shercock, Drumgoon will have a say. Also i wouldn't forget Drumalee who are unbeating all year, albeit in Division 4. But as they, winning is a good habit. They will have a point to prove after relegation from the Senior Championship last year. They won't be easily bet come Championship time.

Senior Championship will be alot better this year as a few teams will think they could do rhe job, where as in previous years it was either Gaels, Kingscourt or Mullahoran. Expecting big things from Lacken.

Apologies for some of the spelling above. Still not the better of that Bank Holiday weekend.

Senior is between castlerahan, gaels and kingscourt. Lacken will be thereabouts as well. Intermediate fav's will be Arva.....drumlane, shercock and swad have a chance but belturbet will be 2nd favs and have a very good chance of winning it. Junior is cornafeans to loose, ballymachugh aren't good enough, despite Shannon gaels getting a few players they are still no where close to the reds. All mountnugent have is givney so he can be easily marked out of it. Predictions - Castlerahan, Belturbet, Cornafean

I love when people from cornafean come on and start calling themselves the reds you'd swear they were man united or something. Mark Barry Doyle and cornafean have no other scoring threat they're a one trick pony. Just to add league form means nothing come championship it's all on the day.

Mountnugent must have more than Givney. They got to the semi final last year, without him. Surely he will be a bonus for them.
They had a good start to the league but a friend of mine tells me they have been missing a few key players for the last few games.

I think Castlerahan will go well in Senior and not sure about intermediate. League form counts for nothing.

I think kingscourt for senior,
Arva for intermediate
Mountnugent for junior, I think with givney back they will give it a good rattle they would have beat templeport last year with him.

Despite the fact Kingscourt hammered the gaels last weekend and as much as it sticks in my craw to say this but lads there is no one out there yet to beat the Gaels

Seanorinn - How do you make that one out? No one out there to beat the Gaels? They had a full team last week and got hammered by Kingscourt.

I would not think the Gaels had a full team out. No Niall Murray,Barry Fortune,Paul Graham, Stephen Murray,Sean Reilly,to name a few that spring to mind. All these players would be on the first team.

popped over to watch the gaels kingscourt game last week, kingscourt much the hungier team, new managment good display from the usual kingscourt past county players, barry tully , toasty was midfield with barry reilly who thought it was a training session, scoring for fun, they really are the back bone of that setup, barry reilly looked every inch the player he could be and seemed happy with his game at the moment, the geals never really looked a threat and were very laboured about there performence ,big improvment needed
