Senior Hurling

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Just one thing lads. This post was started by saying Cavan shouldn't have a senior hurling team and to basically cop themselves on. I don't think it's right to have a dig at the footballers. It's crept in a little bit in a few posts on this topic. I for one want all teams togging out in the blue and white to do well and appreciate the effort every player puts in so it's not a hurling against football thing and it should never be about that. All parties should work together. I think everyone would agree if people saw commitment from all parties they would be in favour of having a senior hurling team.

d101..,, i am in total agreement with what you say and would love to see Cavan back in the National Hurling league but the County Board would rather waste all their money on a football team going nowhere...! That was the point I was makeing

Do sean66, we invest money in a div2 football team and that is a "waste" but spend that money on hurling in div 3c (or whatever it's called) and 2 clubs and that's an investment? Do you expect anyone to take someone who says something so stupid seriously?

Bebbulbenhead.... Nobody is suggesting we spend the same amount of money on a hurling team ...but what ever it is would surley pale in comparison to what it takes to run a football team that fewer and fewer people want to see play... How come ye can field both codes in Sligo...?? Read between the lines before you make stupid comments in future please...

I stand by what I wrote. You said it's a waste of money to invest in the football team. Nonsense.

I suppose the turn over from the football far exceeds what revenue that comes in from Hurling. I wonder how much was the gate receipt from the U14 replay and the senior replay. The support I feel sent out a message loud and clear there is no interest in hurling.

There are two way's to approach this
THE DIPLOMATIC WAY
OR THE AGGRESSIVE WAY
Maybe if those that are currently trying to promote the game and trying to dictate things stood back and used someone else to speak for them this might be a step in the right direction.
I have spoken to several of the better young hurlers and everyone of them said they want to play football and this speaks for itself don't you think. Also they don't want to play with a certain man at the helm so maybe move him on and see what happens.
I love hurling but I hate what is called hurling in Cavan.
I wish you well but forget senior hurling until you can play it at grass roots level first.

If we are to have a hurling team it should be up to the hurling clubs in Cavan to fund it ! Why should the football teams in Cavan have to contribute money to the county board to run the hurling team if they don't have hurling in their club . We don't need a hurling team in Cavan we need a football team who get back to the top of Ulster where we belong. Money should be invested in underage structures of Cavan football and on facilities instead of a senior hurling team that will be playing in division 4 and not winning a single game

You must learn how to walk before you can run.

In your own time compare gate receipts and support from Hurling and football, Football is paying it's way hurling is not.
Support well there is no comparison is there??

As the previous chairman said show me what you can do well have you I ask.
Out of curiosity who won the Ulster club with the Cavan senior champions does anyone know ??? I saw nothing or even heard nothing. Sean

It would be great to see cavan up and going again at senior level. U need the support of the cavan board and the clubs.cavan would also need to get there players back from other teams like from Fermanagh and Donegal. There is only one club in Fermanagh but it is a senior club. If we can put a team together so can Cavan. There is a team there. Also there is no one from cootehill or ballyconnell who play for Fermanagh .

Anyone that had the misfortune of watching the Senior Hurling County Final should be honest and acknowledge hurling in Cavan is a total shambles. There is no place for a Junior intermediate or senior hurling team, for those of you that are shouting for hurling there has to be something wrong for as it stands it's a total shambles. Look when clubs start holding the county board to ransom like what happened previously and will happen again for there are only two senior teams soon to be one so I hope the county board ignore the plea to have hurling representing Cavan just for the sake of it. Forget it.

Mowbar... U are prob right... Hurling is nearly as big a shambles as football in the county as anyone unlucky enough to be in Breffni pk on Sunday would testify..!!!
