Ulster Club Championships

To be a good team you need to be consistent. Cavan have had 3 years of relegation and as Ulster Champions were brushed aside by Tyrone. They played the last 15 minutes with 14 men so could have been more.

Cavan need consistency next year. And not just raising the game here and there. The underage teams need to do better also.

It's amazing how the followers of our proud football county are willing to accept such mediocrity from our team…. They seem willing to accept our embarrassing fall to division 4 and see everything as fine… Dumped out of the championship at the first attempt at senior, minor and U20 but what matter everything is going nicely….

Why does it matter if supporters accept it or not? Complaining in a forum doesn't change anything

Not accepting it, the league has been embarrassing. But was simply pointing out the fine lines between promotion and relegation in the last 2 years. It isn't good enough. But it's the league, and I'm not going to call our Ulster win a fluke, when you can look at our championship results that year, and the year before and you can absolutely see it wasn't a fluke. We've beaten strong Ulster teams in that run. That's not a fluke, no matter how you spin it.

Do agree that last year was a horror show at all grades, and something needs to be done to highlight what went wrong at Senior and the underage grades. Going out at the first round on every one is brutal, and that isn't acceptable. Needs to be the first thing on the agenda on the County Board AGM, club delegates should be mad about this...

I don't agree we beat strong teams in the 2 years we were in the Ulster Final…Apart from a grocery overrated Donegal team that were obviously thinking ahead to the Dublin game ( reason been they had us beaten in 15 minutes the year before) but that's their problem…. Monaghan have a serious mental block when they play Cavan but bad management robbed them of victory against us…. Antrim and Down could have easily beaten us but for the heroic's of Galligan in goal…. Nobody in their right state of mind would have given Cavan a hope at half time in either the Monaghan (down 7) or Down (down 9/10)… It's seldom Gaelic football teams turn around such a deficit once let alone twice….hence my use of the word "fluke"….. The Final itself was a merited win but while not taking from the team I put it down to pure complacency from an overrated Donegal team… A good team pushes on from a win like that but we went in totally the opposite direction… It can only mean one thing…. it's only a matter of admitting it….

Good posts from the previous two posters, both have made fact-based and reasoned analyses of the situation.

I for one think you can tell the true measure of a team by how they defended their title. Unfotunately Cavan's attempt was poor, and the league results spoke for themselves.

Just on another note regarding this split season. With a lot of club finals and provincial games at this time of year, county grounds are looking the worst for wear. Breffini looked in bad shape yesterday and completly overused. Grass at this time of the year has no hope..
