Query re John Clarke,
John captained the Franciscan College, Multyfarnham side to a Leinster Colleges title in 1952. What part of Cavan or club did he belong to ? Also played for Multyfarnham club for a year or two. Usually half back, sometimes midfield.

Tomsmith here

I would love to name some of the great players from Cavan Gaels over the years ,,, but I will resist and say Oliver Leddy was one of the greatest.. Or on second thoughts... Ollie Texas Brady was a great player

Is it possible that nobody can answer this ? The lad must have been well known. Won't ask again.

Ok. His team mates in that Leinster Colleges team included Cathal Flynn (Leitrim), Sean O'Donnell (Donegal) and Frank Eivers (Galway).

Don't know if this might be the same man but a Sean Clarke played wing half back for Cornafean in the 1956 senior county final. He was I think from the townland of Monery near Crossdoney but as this was a bit before my time I know very little of him. If you google the history of Cornafean GFC you will find a picture of that 1956 title winning team which includes him. Hope this helps!

Think you are on the right track here. I have a picture of him but don't think it is possible to upload it on this site. Many thanks for your response and keep safe, everyone.

I no longer live in Cornafean but next time I'm down (Covid permitting) I'll ask about him. The Administrator for the Forum here might pass on my contact details to you if you ask him or her and we can correspond directly.

Good to see this thread had a happy ending.

Speaking of memory lanes, The Celt have posted some colourised footage of the 1948 team's games v Antrim and Mayo that's worth a watch. https://www.anglocelt.ie/2020/10/19/incredible-footage-emerges-of-cavan-footballers-in-1948/

Black Death -great to see that video. If you have the time and if you haven't done so already, take a look at the GAA Collection on the website of the Irish Film Institute where there is footage (freely available for now anyway) of the 47,48 and 52 All irelands. Much better for your humour than worrying about our prospects of avoiding Div. 3 next weekend!

more footage of the pre-match marches and bishops and priests. and the odd bit of football (invariably no longer than a couple of seconds before it jumps to another bit of unrelated footage. Good to see it in colour though.
