Nothing negative coming from me. I'm just glad we have a manager in place who seems to know what he's doing. It's a welcome change from the last 2 we had.

To be honest, that is part of it but also lads out the field not making "real" runs for the kick outs was a bigger issue. This forces the Keeper to kick a 50:50 ball which their bigger men gobbled up.

He kicked 3 mighty frees in the Armagh replay to be fair. Who else would you recommend to take the long range frees

I disagree when you say there has to be a change of keeper to be honest try and get a look at the Cavan Donegal game on video and I am sure one will see Galligan had no one to direct his kick outs too. The problem for the majority of the time the center of the field was abandoned by the Blue jersey there lay's the problem. Players making no efforts to give him an option. I felt either they were burnt our or just did not want to support each other something was not right. I would take nothing from the last 15 minuets for the game was over as a contest at that stage. Look at the national league Galligan kept the score sheets respectable with his leg blocks ect. Farrelly was probably a handy reserve Goalkeeper when he was in but not sure he is about anymore. we are simply not good enough at the moment to Beat Dublin,Kerry,Donegal,Mayo or Tyrone. so stop fantasising. The only hope of improving is to play more regularly against these teams and seeing as we will be plying our trade in division 2 next year then it is imperative that we make the super-8s . The only hope of that happening is to draw Westmeath/Clare/Laois/Ofally. The game against Donegal reminded me of the Tyrone replay a few years ago where we were hammered but tagged on quite a few scores towards the end in junk time. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 26/06/2019 11:25:58 2201154 Link 0 |
Definitely time for a new keeper, Armagh really should have punished Galligan's mistakes in the semis and I thought it would come back to haunt is in the final which it duly did. Fair enough there weren't always options but I lost count the amount of times he scuffed kick-outs straight to a Donegal forward. Huge gulf in class between Patton & Galligan. Not the time of the year to be changing keeper. I'm numerous occasions I heard Galligan call for lads to make the run. He needs options too.

as soon as the ball goes dead or even before the players outfield and the keeper should be getting ready for the kickout. we are too slow. Also the kickout needs to be hard and fast not a high looping ball that gives oposition time . There should be a strategy worked on. If the opposition have a free in which more than likely will result in the ball going dead then already we should be thinking about the kickout , not merely watching the ball sailing over the bar or wide. Btw does anyone know why James Farrelly is no longer in the panel. I was just thinking on Sunday when Galligan was assaulted by Murphy, what if he cant continue ?. Has Brady ever played a competive game for Cavan. It would be tough on the lad bringing him in for his debut in a provincial final. Farrelly has played lots of national league and McKenna Cup games and correct me if I'm wrong here , and also some championship games , and never let us down.

Cavanman47, i suppose why i ask is my thoughts last Sunday in Clones about our lack of movement/ incision in our forward line. Then i started to recall some of the match reports in the celt over the last months where i noted that Martin Rielly was CB for Killygarry, Niall Murray was CB for gaels, Madden was MF for Gowna (young Brady was wing back for Gowna some of those days too) Oisin kiernan seemed to be a half back more ofter and T Galligan was mf for Lacken. Call me old school but i think we could do with more than one of our starting co forwards to be a regular forward for their club. In fact you kindly make my point for me, more of our starting cavan defenders (clarke, mc loughlin, ray galligan) play as forwards for their clubs, than do our starting co forwards?? The irony being that the one young lad that does actually start forward for his club, was probably the least dynamic cavan forward last sunday. bunnoe1 (Cavan) - Posts: 60 - 26/06/2019 14:06:17 2201257 Link 0 |
Fair I didnt make it clear on my post I meant a new keeper for next year. As I said we needed more options but still no excuse for scuffing kick outs 25m straight to a Donegal jersey. Even lumping it up the field would have been a better option.
