The Cavan senior and intermediate club championship relegation play-offs look set to be held up after it emerged that there may be a flaw in their structures.
The Anglo-Celt reports that the intermediate clubs involved in relegation met and have alerted the county board to the fact that their decision to increase the number of relegated clubs from each competition may not have been the correct procedure.
It was decided this year that three each from both senior and intermediate would be demoted in an effort to restructure the championship format.
However, Rule 3.30 of the GAA's Official Guide states that a provincial body must consider applications by Counties for the regarding of more than one Club to Intermediate or to Junior status in any Championship year.
"Prior approval of the Provincial Council must be obtained for any such regradings in excess of one Club in each grade."
Four teams, including former champions Cavan Gaels, were scheduled to play-off for their senior status, while in the intermediate grade three of the six teams were to be demoted to junior.
However, it's possible that no teams will be relegated with more information expected to become available after this weekend's round of fixtures.
