The Camogie Association today unveiled a plaque in Pairc Tailteann to celebrate our 120th Anniversary.
120 years ago in 1904, the first official camogie match (after the formation of the National Governing Body – The Camogie Association) took place at Pairc Tailteann between Dublin clubs – Keatings and Cúchulainns.
The plaque was revealed before the Meath Camogie Senior final between Na Fianna and Kilmessan. This match represented a momentous occasion for the Camogie Association and for the Meath ground as it was the first time the Meath Camogie Senior decider has been hosted in Pairc Tailteann since 2005.
2024 is also the first ever year that all four Senior finals from the four codes will take place at Pairc Tailteann. We are delighted to have this plaque in place during this momentous occasion in Meath Camogie, GAA and LGFA history.
Speaking at the unveiling, Thomas Byrne, Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education and the Gaeltacht said:
“I am delighted to join the Camogie Association in commemorating its 120th anniversary. Over its 120 years, the Camogie Association has provided an opportunity for members of all ages to pursue their passion for sport and be part of a proud Irish sporting tradition. It is a joy to see Pairc Tailteann’s role in the foundation of the Camogie Association recognised and I am honoured to be part of this celebration.”
Brian Molloy, Uachtarán of the Camogie Association said:
“We are very proud to be celebrating our 120thAnniversary throughout 2024. Unveiling this plaque is one of these anniversary celebrations. It is important, as we mark 120 years of the Camogie Association, that we mark the location of the very first official fixture played under the auspices of the Association. We hope that this plaque will become a piece of camogie history for camogie playing generations to come.”
