AFL side Carlton Blues have signed Kerry dual star Rob Monahan and Longford footballer Matt Duffy as international rookies ahead of the team’s pre-season training camp.

Monahan was part of the Kerry U20 squad which captured the Munster title this past season, although he missed out on the final win over Clare through suspension.

He plays his club football for Ardfert and hurling with Kilmoyley and had been earmarked to break into the Kerry senior panel.

Dromard native Duffy is a former county minor and also lined-out for Longford in 2022.

He now becomes the second Longford man to pen a deal with an AFL team after Mickey Quinn linked up with Essendon back in 2008.

Carlton Blues confirmed early this morning that both players have signed two-year contracts with the club and will join them Down Under for pre-season training in November.
