Under 13 Football League Final
Pollough was the venue last Friday evening for the U.13 Football League final between Tullamore and Ferbane/Belmont. Conditions were wet and greasy but this did not distract both teams from providing the large crowd with a very good game where no quarter was given by either side.Tullamore had the brighter start and after a couple of wides they had the first score when Niall Furlong broke through and his effort for a goal skimmed the crossbar and went over for the first point of the game.Their lead was short lived however as the Ferbane/Belmont boys began to put pressure on the Tullamore defence and a mix up in the goalmouth yielded a goal. From the kick out Ferbane/Belmont attacked again and pointed to give them a 3pt. lead after 10 mins. Both teams were commited to attack but scores were scarce as both sets of forwards had wides before Adam Bahi got possession for Tullamore 30 meters out and his effort went all the way to the net to level the game. Further points from Niall Furlong and a great effort from captain Luke Duffy put Tullamore into the lead. In the 20th. minute a terrific move involving Davin Keegan, Ryan Fenlon, Jack Daly, Sean Kavanagh and Killian Burke sent Jack Bracken through and his shot found the net to put Tullamore further ahead. Jack Donegan pointed soon after but Ferbane /Belmont finished the first half scoring with 2pts. to keep in touch. Half Time: Tullamore 2-4. Ferbane/Belmont 1-2.
Tullamore got the best start possible to the second period when from the throw in they got the ball forward and Jack Bracken was on hand to score his second goal when the Ferbane/Belmont defence were unable to clear the danger.Ferbane/Belmont were rocked at this stage but to their credit they began to take the game to Tullamore. They dominated the next 15mins. but failed to keep the scoreboard man busy as they only clocked up three points due to a combination of poor finishing and strong defensive work by Conor Casey in goal, Luke Boyle, Eoghan Spain and Jake Moore.
Tullamore made some positional changes and gradually weathered the storm . They regained the initiave with points from Niall Furlong (2) and Jack Bracken while a late goal from Jack Donegan sealed their victory.
Ross Kelly, Anthony Lawlor,Chris Leavy,KillianDunne, Cian Lynam and Killian Wynne all made contributions when introduced at various stages of the game but Killian Martins performance was impressive as he was very steady all through.
Refreshments were served to the victorious team in GAA Centre on their return and many thanks to the social committee for organizing at very short notice.Final Score: Tullamore 4-7. Ferbane/Belmont 1-6 Tullamore Panel: Conor Casey, Ryan Fenlon, Eoghan Spain, Jake Moore,Killian Martin, Davin Keegan, Luke Duffy, Jack Daly, Adam Bahi, Luke Boyle, Killian Burke, Sean Kavanagh, Jack Bracken, Niall Furlong, Jack Donegan, Ross Kelly, Cian Lynam, Anthony Lawlor, Chris Leavy, Killian Dunne, Killian Wynne.
