Ward may declare for Offaly

November 26, 2006
Speculation is mounting that Westmeath forward PJ Ward will declare for the Offaly footballers after being granted an inter-county transfer. Ward, who lined out against the Faithful County in this year's Leinster championship, is transferring from his home club Kilbeggan Shamrocks to Rahan-parish outfit Shamrocks, who were narrowly beaten by Rhode in last year's Offaly SFC final. There, Ward will link up with current Offaly stars Barry Mooney and Neville Coughlan. After starting this year's championship matches against Offaly and London, Ward lost his place for the second round qualifier against Limerick and subsequently left the Lake County panel. He burst onto the scene during Westmeath's triumphant Leinster minor championship campaign of 2000, when he scored 1-4 in the final against Dublin. He has also represented New York in the Connacht championship.
