Facing UCD "no big deal" for McNamee
November 14, 2006
Rising Offaly star Niall McNamee is unfazed by the prospect of lining out for Rhode against his UCD team-mates in Sunday's Leinster club football championship semi-final at Parnell Park.
In a bizarre twist, McNamee finds himself lining out against the team he helped win a Dublin county championship last Monday night week. But his first allegiances are to his native club Rhode, who have big ambitions after winning their third Offaly SFC title this year.
"I suppose it's unique coming up against lads I've been playing with and people will draw attention to it, but I don't really see it as a big deal. It's just another game," he said.
"It's similar to the county scene really. One week you're playing and training with lads, but when you go back to your club you're playing against the same guys. You just get on with it.
"UCD came and asked me to play a few matches earlier in the year. They had been good to me in the past so I was happy to help out. But the main focus has always been my home club.
"Sunday's match is not about me. It's about getting Rhode as far as we can in this club championship. That's the bottom line."
