McManus to soldier on

Veteran Offaly football star Ciaran McManus has confirmed his availability to new manager Richie Connor. The 32-year-old Tubber clubman, who won a Leinster championship medal with the Faithful County in 1997, will extend his inter-county career into a 16th season next year, making him one of the long-serving players on the inter-county scene at present. The former International Rules player had already spoken with the new manager and has assured him that, despite taking a job in Southampton, he will be available for the new campaign. "I want to play for as long as I can and even being away has given me a fresh hunger," he said. "I miss football already and that's a good sign. I'll be fierce busy with work next year, but I'm not stressing about that just yet," added McManus, who previously travelled back and forth from Germany and Finland for training and matches.
