Goalkeepers in soccer cannot afford to "wait and see which direction the penalty taker was hitting it". You can do it to a degree in GAA but in soccer the goals are much bigger. If they "wait and see" then the ball is in the net before they dive.

Hunt was right to criticise the sacking of the great Mick McCarthy. It was a terrible decision by Wolves. Says a lot about players though that they have an excuse and in typical form they'll be making full use of it to deflect all attention from their own failings.

Personally I think if they wait a split second longer to at least see the direction of the shot it gives them a better chance of saving a poorly struck penalty which is more towards the centre of the goal, whereas if they just guess the odds of them being in the right place are always low. I suppose it's more about reading the body language of the striker to pick up on where he's planning to hit it, and having done your research to see where he normally goes, but Shay rarely seems to be good with penalties either way.
