1119900 The Israeli keeper got his comeuppance in the hotel after the game I seem to recall. Bringing on a holding midfielder for a striker when 2 up and cruising was asking for trouble

True but in fairness I think the options were Gary Doherty and Stephen Elliott.

I am a Trap fan but I don't see as Ea-moan Grumphy's sensationalist comments.

Seamus

What do you think of Dunphy's comments?

I think labelling Trap as 'amateurish' was outrageous. This is a man that has brought us to our first major finals in 10 years with great professionalism, in my opinion, and Dunphy feels the need to say something like that. Fool.

excellent article by kerr in the times. spot on with his comments. i know we are not getting beaten very often but frankly my dears if you have any love of football you can't possibly enjoy watching that rubbish. if we manage to get a draw against both the croats and italy and lose to spain (which is about the best we can dream of) we will have 2 points. spain will beat everyone so they will have 9. italy and croatia could go either way so the best scenario is
team Pl W D L F A GD Pts
Spain 3 3 0 0 6 0 6 9
Italy 3 1 1 1 2 2 0 4
Irland 3 0 2 1 1 4 -3 2
Croat 3 0 1 2 0 3 -3 1

however the most likely scenario is
team Pl W D L F A GD Pts
Spain 3 3 0 0 6 0 6 9
Italy 3 2 0 1 2 1 1 6
Croat 3 1 0 2 1 3 -2 4
Irland 3 0 0 3 0 5 -5 0

Whatever about his merits as a manager to give McClean only 11 minutes last night was insulting to the player and the fans who pay his (very high) wages, or some of his wages anyway.

I thought the standing ovation for McClean last night was a bit embarrassing. You can be sure the over-whelming majority of people who cheered have never seen him play 90 minutes. Best of luck to him though, I hope he has a great Ireland career, but the expectations are ridiculous.

I hate the atmosphere at Lansdowne sometimes. Its like people are hoping lads like Paul Green make mistakes, there was a big groan when he misplaced a pass but none when McClean lost possession. Huge amounts of supporters seem to take their cues from the Star the RTE panel or something. Its all about being proven right or something rather than hoping your country does well.
