Dubs are the 'benchmark', says Hampsey

Tyrone's Padraig Hampsey and Cathal Compton of Roscommon

Padraig Hampsey is under no illusions about the task facing Tyrone in tomorrow evening's Super 8s clash at Healy Park.

"They have been there and done it for a number of years and are the team to beat," the Coalisland clubman told the Irish News.

"It's something like 28 games since they lost in the championship and that is an unreal record. You have to give it to them, they are the benchmark that everyone else wants to get to.

"It's going to be tough this weekend and our main aim is to stay in this competition as long as we can and we are just going to go out and give it our best."

Con O'Callaghan's early goal paved the way for Dublin's surprisingly comfortable victory over the Red Hands in last year's All-Ireland SFC semi-final and Hampsey knows they can't allow the All-Ireland champions to make another fast start.

"They always seem to get off to a good start and get an early goal and that is something that we have to try and prevent," he continued.

"It's hard to stop that sometimes, it might be a training ground routine with Dublin, but we have to try and stop them from getting those early scores and that is a big ask for us."
