Seamus Callanan will start on the bench for Tipperary in their Munster SHC opener against Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.

Three-time All Star Callanan has been held in reserve having only returned to action three weeks ago following back surgery in January.

Manager Michael Ryan has made a major rejig to the side that lined out in the league final defeat to Kilkenny last month, dropping Daragh Mooney, James Barry, Michael Breen and Brendan Maher to the bench.

Brian Hogan, Donagh Maher, Dan McCormack, Noel McGrath and John O'Dwyer are all introduced to the starting 15 as part of five changes in personnel as Michael Cahill misses out due to a hamstring injury.

Seamus Kennedy is the Premier County's new full-back while championship newcomers Willie Connors and Billy McCarthy form a new midfield partnership.

Tipperary (Munster SHC v Limerick): Brian Hogan; Alan Flynn, Seamus Kennedy, Donagh Maher; Barry Heffernan, Padraic Maher, Ronan Maher; Willie Connors, Billy McCarthy; Dan McCormack, Noel McGrath, Sean Curran; John O'Dwyer, Jason Forde, John McGrath.

Subs: Daragh Mooney, James Barry, Michael Breen, Ger Browne, Seamus Callanan, Paudie Feehan, Brendan Maher, Patrick Maher, Jake Morris, Sean O'Brien, Joe O'Dwyer.
