Darts commentator Sid Waddell has died at the age of 72, his manager has said.

Waddell, who had been suffering from bowel cancer since last September, became known as the voice of darts for his commentary over many years on the BBC and Sky.

In a statement, his manager Dick Allix said he "died peacefully with all his family around him late last night".

Jaysus tragic news r.i.p sid. Will be sadly missed...

As a big darts fan I was absolutely gutted to hear about Sid's death, an absolute legend of a commentator, and sadly darts will just not be the same without him. May he rest in peace, although heaven will be a far less quieter place with Sid about.

At a crucial stage of the Taylor Barneveld classic final just as Taylor was about to throw Sid whispered, "it's so quiet in here you could hear the grease drip off a chip" . A legend who will be sorely missed.
