Peter Guinan R.I.P.

The 1968 Offaly Senior Football Champions lost another member with the death of right half forward Peter Guinan. Peter who had been ill for some time passed away on Sunday morning. A native of Leamonaghan and a former Bord na Mona employee he played on Ballycumber teams throughout the 1960’s. During his career he collected two Offaly Junior Football medals in 1963 and 1966 and an Offaly senior football medal in 1968 as well as numerous tournament souvenirs. Peter served the Club as treasurer after his playing days and continued as a supporter.

The members of the Club offer our deepest sympathy to Peter’s wife Cella and daughters Stephanie, Catriona and Elaine and the extended family.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Offaly Under 20 Football.

Congratulations to Clive and Marcus Keena who were members of the Offaly Under 20 panel who defeated Limerick 4—15 to 0—8 in the Faithful Fields on Friday evening in the Liam O’Connor Cup competition.


The Annual General Meeting arranged for Sunday evening was postponed as a mark of respect to the late Peter Guinan and will be rearranged soon.

Dinner Dance.

Saturday 15th February in the Bridge House Hotel is the date of our Presentation Dinner Dance. The 1994 Intermediate Football Championship winning players will be Guests of Honour. The Ballycumber minor football team who lost the1994 minor final and the 2019 Division 5 winning panel will also be invited guests at the function.Tickets at 40 euro will soon be on sale and music will be provided by the talented Secrets.

Ballycumber Dance Classses

Learn how to Jive, Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot and Line dance. Dance Classes every Monday night from 8pm in Ballycumber Community Centre.  Beginners class 8 - 9, Improvers from 9 - 10 and dancing for all from 10 - 11pm. Great exercise and good fun, no partners required. Slow Waltz classes from 7pm, contact Christopher on 0868474744 for more information.


Ballycumber History Group are continuing to research the 80 men and women from the Ballycumber area who fought in World War 1. The group would appreciate any information on any of the men and women who answered the call and would love to meet family members.


 Club Hats.

 Club Hats are on sale from committee members.


The numbers drawn this week were 12,19,22,23.  No jackpot winner, four match three winners.  Next week’s draw will be held in Stewarts on Monday night at 10 o’clock for a jackpot of 6650 euros.                                                                                                                                                       Play lotto on line at until 8pm on Monday or buy tickets from local shops, pubs and from usual lotto sellers.
