U13 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD 1

Na Fianna U13 Footballers no 1 side alike their U15 counterparts also made a winning start to the Championship as they saw off the challenge of Clara in Rd 1 last Friday evening in Geashill on a scoreline of 2-08 to 1-06. Na Fianna opened the scoring with a point inside the first min but immediately Clara went down the field and through for a well taken goal to open their account. A point apiece followed before Na Fianna raised their first green flag on 6 mins when Colm Nolan’s shot in was flicked down by Ryan Kinahan to the in-running Sean Dunne who blasted his shot to the net. Again both sides added just a point apiece before Na Fianna struck for their second goal on 25 mins when Cillian Murphy kept the ball in on the sideline sending the ball in to Ryan Kinahan on the edge of the square in the clear and he ran in and shot past the keeper. This gave Na Fianna a lead of 2-03 to 1-02 at the break. In the second half Na Fianna added 5 points to Clara’s 4 to see out the game and claim the win.

Na Fianna U13 no 2 Football team battled bravely as they just lost out by a single point to St Vincents in Rd 1 of the C Competition last Saturday morning in Geashill on a scoreline of 0-07 to 1-03. St Vincents started the brighter opening the scoring with the first 4 points inside the opening 20 mins before Na Fianna had been creating plenty of chances were finally rewarded with their opening point on 21 mins followed immediately by the goal when a shot by Luke Keenan from the right wing was spilled by the keeper just inside the line. Na Fianna then went in front in the last min of the half with a second point from Cian Multaney Kelly so at the break it was 1-02 to 0-04 to Na Fianna. The first 15 mins of the second half was scoreless but 3 points in the final 10 mins to Na Fianna’s 1 was enough for St Vincents to claim the win.
