Ballycumber GAA Club notes

June 26, 2019

Feile.

Best wishes for an enjoyable and successful weekend to St Manchan Gaels under 14 footballers as they travel to Sligo on Friday. They will stay with families attached to the Enniscrone/Kilglass Club in Sligo and will play against Butlersbridge from Cavan and Sligo Club, Curry.  They will play against the host Club on Saturday 29th June at 10.45 in Quigabar pitch. Depending on results in the group stages, St Manchan Gaels would face into the knockout stages.

Offaly Football.

Congratulations to Clive Keena and the Offaly under 20 footballs who recorded a very impressive victory over Carlow on Saturday and will now travel to Navan on Tuesday week to face Meath.

Offaly senior footballers also were impressive in their eleven point victory over Sligo on Sunday and we wish them the best of luck in the next round against Laois this weekend.

Junior B Football Championship.

Unfortunately the game against Clara did not take place as the opposition were unable to field a team.

Buggy Coaches Division 2 Football League.

Walsh Island 2—16 Ballycumber 0—12.

Ballycumber paid the price for a poor first half display in which the home side ran the ball from their own defence and scored 1—10.  Ballycumber scores came from Luke Gavin Mangan. Fergal Daly and four points from Joe Lowry. A much improved second half display wasn’t rewarded with enough scores as at least three good goal scoring opportunities were not taken. Conrad Casey and Joe Lowry scored two points each and David Ayres and Mel Guinan added one each but the home side added 1—6 and were comfortable winners.

Team. Leo Guinan, Alan Flanagan, Michael Egan, Karl Daly, John Egan[Capt] Sean Hackett, Ethan Keena, Tom Corcoran, Shaun Creevy, Marcus Keena, Luke Gavin Mangan, Adrian Kelly, Fergal Daly, Joe Lowry, Conrad Casey, John Corcoran, David Ayres, Mel Guinan, Jamie Cornally.

Ballycumber will face Erin Rovers in Doon on Sunday 21st July in the first round of the Senior B Football Championship.

Eileen Rose.

Deepest sympathy to the Rose and O’Meara families on the death of Eileen Rose [O’Meara]. Eileen O’Meara represented our Club in Scor in 1982 in the Novelty Act competition. The sketch entitled “ Paddy’s Cafe” also featured Paddy and Ronnie O’Connor, Frank Bannon, Andrew  Brett and “Shep”. They won the Offaly County Final and contested the Leinster Final in the Gaiety Theatre.
