DIVISION 5 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Just 2 days after their senior counterparts met in the Div 2 league Raheen and Tubber Juniors came up against one another last Tuesday week in the Div 5 League final round of the group stage but this time it was Raheen who claimed the win by just the minimum margin on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-11 which sees Raheen through to the semi final with a 100 % record 3 wins out of 3. The first half saw the sides match each other score for score and by half time it was Tubber who just had their noses in front 0-07 to 0-06. Raheen got the dream start to the second half when inside the first minute when Stephen Pierce who just been introduced made a darting run in before laying off to Gavin Kelly who blasted to the net for a goal which was followed up with 2 points and over the next 10 mins Raheen added 3 points to Tubber’s 1 to extend the lead to 6 points during which time Tubber also lost veteran full back Brian McManus to a black card. Then on 16 mins a breakaway move saw Tubber get through for their goal and for the remaining 14 mins they clawed their way back scoring 3 points to Raheen’s 1 to leave the difference at just the 1 point in stoppage time which Raheen held on for.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD 3

Along with their place in the league semi final Raheen Junior Footballers are almost through to the Junior B Championship semi finals following a big win against Gracefield in Rd 3 last Sunday evening in Gracefield on a scoreline of 4-08 to 1-06 to make it 2 wins out of 3 in the group. Then in the final min of the half came the decisive moment of the game as Raheen struck for 2 goals, the first a run in from the right win by Lee Mulpeter saw him pick out James Bryan in the clear in the square and he rounded the keeper to slot the ball to the net, the second straight from the kickout Aidan Pierce made a solo run in from the left wing to blast the ball to the net. This gave Raheen a 2-03 to 0-03 lead at the break. Raheen started the second half as they finished the first half adding a pointed free followed by 2 more goals, the first on 4 mins a penalty dispatched by Lee Mulpeter which he had won himself, the second on 7 mins again from Lee Mulpeter as he reacted quickest when Aidan Pierce’s shot was parried by the keeper. U13 DIV 1 FOOTBALL LEAGUE FINAL

Na Fianna U13 Footballers put in a super performance giving it their all as they were extremely unlucky not to win the Div 1 League Final just being edged out by Tullamore in the decider last Saturday morning in Cappincur on a scoreline of 1-16 to 2-12 with just a single point seperating them after extra time. Na Fianna started the brighter as they opened up a lead of 4 points to 2 after 20 mins but Tullamore hit 5 points in a row before Na Fianna drew level with a goal in the last min of the half when a high ball into the square was caught by Ryan Kinahan who turned and slotted his shot past the keeper. The first 20 mins of the second half saw both sides add 2 points apiece before the moment of the game came on 22 mins when Na Fianna’s Conor Bracken on his first day back after a long injury layoff with a blistering solo run through the middle before blasting the ball to the net for the 2nd goal before adding a point a few mins later to put Na Fianna 3 points up a lead they held until 4 mins into stoppage time with the last kick of the game Tullamore struck for an equalising goal 2-07 to 1-10 at full time with extra time to follow.
