Dunne, Gerry

The late Gerry Dunne The sudden death of Gerry Dunne, Killurin on Monday, March 19th, 2007 was greeted with great shock and sadness both locally and well beyond. Just 61 years old, Gerry was very well and popular in many circles. Most of his working career was spent as a lorry driver and he had a long association with Spollen Concrete, known as Kilsaran Concrete in latter times. As a good humoured and witty character, Gerry was always congenial company and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. In his earlier years, Gerry Dunne played hurling with Killeigh and with Killurin after the club was formed in 1985. For many years he was the resident goalie. Away from the playing field, he played his part as an active member of Killurin GAA Club's Finance Committee and his persuasive and popular personality generally resulted in his leading the sale of tickets or whatever fundraising activity he was involved with. After reposing at his home in Killurin, his remains were removed to St Patrick's Church Killeigh and were received by Fr John Stapelton, PP. His internment took place following Requiem Mass celebrated by Monsignor Tom Coonan. Family members including Grandchildren and friends were involved in the celebration of the Requiem Mass contributing to a fitting farewell to a person loved by so much. Killurin GAA Club organised a Guard of Honour at both the removal ceremony and at the funeral. The large amount of visitors who came to pay their respects at his home in Killurin, together with the huge attendance at the both the removal ceremony and on the day of internment, bore testimony to the high regard in which the deceased and his family are held. To his wife, Pauline, his son Gerard, daughters, Linda and Vanessa, his mother Sheila, brothers, Cyril and Eamon, sisters Carmel, Mary, Sheila and Loretto, his relatives and friends, deepest sympathy is extended.
