The late Paddy Kelly The town of Banagher was saddened by the death of one of its eldest sons, Paddy Kelly, Main Street, Banagher. He died on Thursday night, January 18th, 2007 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. Internment took place in the local cemetery after Mass in St Rynagh's Church, Banagher. Paddy moved to Banagher from Shannon Harbour in 1950, after marrying local woman Teresa White. He worked with Offaly County Council and local industry Bantile (now Banagher Concrete), before going to work with the ESB and for over twenty years was based at the peat station in Shannonbridge. He and a great love for work and apart from his day-to-day job, he greatly enjoyed working both on the bog and in his garden. He built a reputation locally for growing fresh vegtables and during the summer months local would call to sample some of his delights. Paddy also had a great love of the GAA. Prior to moving to Banagher, he played both football and hurling for St Saran's, Belmont. In later years, he enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons playing for St Rynagh's. His love for traditional music an song never waned throughout his life, and he had a reputation within his family and friends of giving a song or two. He was also an honourary member of the local Fianna Fáil group. He is survived by his wife Teresa, sons Paul, Frankie, Brendan, Kieran, Pat and Albert, daughters Ann, Doreen and Patricia, sons in law Vincent, Tom and Garry, daughters in law Joyce, Mary, Monica, Colette and Lucy, grandsons, grand-daughters, great-grandsons, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to all of whom sincere sympathy is extended.
