The late Kevin Craven The closely knit community in Rahan and Mucklagh was plunged into mourning with the tragic and sudden death of a talented young player. Kevin Craven, a minor footballer and hurler with Shamrocks was buried and the massive attendance at his removal and funeral provided an accurate indication of his popularity and the esteem in which he was held. The Mucklagh man was a particularly talented footballer and was a valued and important member of successful Shamrocks underage sides. Just seventeen years of age, he was a member of the Shamrocks team that won the U-12 Football Championship in 2001. Two years later, he played a leading role on the Shamrocks team as they captured the U-14 A football titles, beating Rhode in the final while just late in 2006, he won a Minor Football Championship B title with Shamrocks. He played most of his football in defence and was a tidy and steady corner back. A tight marker and a clean player, he always tried to find a man with his clearances. Kevin also played underage hurling with is club while he was a member of successful school teams in Killina Secondary School down the years. A very bright and intelligent young man, Kevin received an exceptional Leaving Certificate and was a a law student at UCD. A very mannerly and decent young man, he had a very bright future ahead of him. He was still eligible to play minor this year (2007) as Shamrocks bid to capture a coveted minor A football title. Kevin also did part time work in the Bridge House in Tullamore and at his removal and funeral, guards of honour were provided by his minor team mates at Shamrocks, members of Shamrocks GAA club and students and staff from Killina Secondary School. His funeral proved to be a very emotional occasion and our thoughts and sympathy go to Kevins family and many friends and colleagues at this traumatic time.
