The late Paul Quinn The sudden death of Paul Quinn, Lacka, Carrig, Birr aged 73 years shocked the people of Birr and Carrig. His passing was unexpected. He had been out and about during the day and was in good form but that evening became suddenly ill and died. Everyone in the area was shocked and found it difficult to comprehend that Paul had died so suddenly. Paul was born n Lacka, Carrig on the 29th June, 1933 and was one of eight children of the late Patrick and Nora Quinn. He attended the local school in Carrig with his brother Padge. He enjoyed his years at school, particularly at break times and went out hurling with his school mates. On leaving school he worked with local farmers. He hurled with Birr and was a member of two victorious Juvenile teams in 1948 and 1949. He returned to hurl with Carrig during a long hurling career spanning over 30 years. He won two Junior titles in 1955 and 1971, and was also on the winning Carrig team in 1958. During his time working with CIE in Birr he played on the CIE team in the Inter Firms Competition and they won the Inter Firm title on three occasions. He worked for a number of years in Bord na Mona and he also worked the CIE and ESB, before going back to where he started with the local farmers in Lacka, Gurteen and Ballymona. In his lifetime he loved gardening and always ensured that their shed was full of fuel for the year for they year. He enjoyed a pint and was a very good dancer. His other passion was following the Tipp hurling teams. Paul was a great neighbour and a very loyal friend. There was a very large attendance at his removal to Carrig Church and at his funeral to the local cemetery after Requiem Mass. Sincere sympathy is extended to his brothers Padge, Seanie, Jimmy, Dickie, Dessie, sisters Geraldine Williams, Patsy Sullivan, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.
