The late Martin Rice On Friday, September 8th, 2006 in the care of his family and nurses of ICU Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore, Martin Rice Snr, 11 Newbridge Street, Birr passed to his eternal reward. Born in Carrig in July, 1930, Martin was one of a family of seven. He attended Carrig NS. In 1957 he married Josie O'Hara and they reared a family of four sons and four daughters. Martin worked on farms locally for most of his working life. He also worked in the Moquette Factory and Loughnane Concrete, Birr. Martin was a loving husband and father and was always interested and involved in his children's lives, and in later years his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a good neighbour and friend and was always willing to give a helping hand. Martin hurled on the Carrig and Riverstown 1955 Junior team and 1958 Intermediate Team. He represented the club at Scor and always loved to sing and enjoyed many a sing song. To his wife, Josie, sons, Albert, Michael, Johnny and Martin, daughters, Mary, Bridget, Pauline and Claire, son-in-laws, daughters-in-laws, grandchildren, brothers, Andy and John, sisters, Teresa and Margaret, relatives, neighbours, friends and all who knew him, the sincere sympathy of all is extended on their great loss.
