Blaithin Walsh, a friend of the family, provided music and hymns for the Mass. A guard of honour from the GAA clubs again escorted Joe on his final journey to St Joseph's Cemetery. Joe was born in 1935 at Raheenmoyle, Kilcormac. He lived there until he met his wife Kathleen and married in 1963 when he moved to Tullamore. There he lived for five years and moved back to Kilcormac to St Cormac's Park in 1968 where he lived until 2001 when he moved back to his roots in Raheenmoyle. Joe was a devoted family man. He drew great pleasure from his six grandchildren. Joe was a keen hurler, hurling for both his club and county. During his hurling career he hurled with four different clubs, Kilcormac, Killoughey, Drumcullen, Tullamore winning two county senior medals with Drumcullen, and one county Senior medal with Tullamore. He hurled Junior for Offaly and later went on to hurl senior for the county where he hurled for several years and had his best year in 1969 when they reached the Leinster final and just lost out narrowly to Kilkenny. Joe worked for Bord Na Mona for 36 years until he retired in April 1988. The large attendance at Joe's funeral was a fitting testimony to the esteem in which he was held.
