The late Patsy O'Shaughnessy There was widespread shock in the community when news spread of the sudden death of Patsy O'Shaughnessy. Fifty two year old Patsy was in food health but sadly died suddenly in his sleep. He enjoyed football and hurling and was looking forward to going to Croke Park next Sunday and was taking his eldest grandson Oisin to his first match in Dublin. Patsy played football in his younger days and won an U21 championship medal with Walsh Island in 1974. A guard of honour from Walsh Island GAA club, which also included former members of the 1974 team met the funeral cortege at the Forge and escorted the hearse to the church gate. The coffin was carried into the church by some of his 1974 team mates, Willie Slattery, Rich Connor, Eamon Mulhall, Tom Mulhall, Willie Connor and neighbour Jim Gallagher. Patsy also enjoyed a flutter on the horse and was pretty good at picking the winners but he also made mistakes and lost a few bob now and then. Sincere sympathy is extended to his heartbroken wife Betty, son Richard, daughters Carol and partner Ronan, Clair and Laura, mother Ann, sisters Mrs. Mary Malone, Rhode, Mrs. Nan Brereton, Rathangan, Mrs Betty Nolan, Edenderry, grandchildren, Oisin, Sarah and Kieran, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended family.
