Kelly, Brendan

February 22, 2006
The late Brendan Kelly The death has taken place of a legendary Edenderry and Offaly supporter, Brendan kelly. Known far and wide as "Locks" Kelly, Brendan died suddenly last week. He was a great character who was very well liked by all who knew him. Evidence of his popularity was provided by the huge turnout at his removal last Saturday evening and burial on Sunday morning. The late Brendan Kelly was on friendly terms with many of the Offaly heroes that won All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medals in 1971 and '72 and many of these were present at his funeral. In '71 and '72, Brendan was one of Offaly's most enthusiastic supporters and he attended practically every training session and match. He was popular and well liked by the team and used to participate in training or Jimmy Magee All-Star matches if needed. Brendan was also an enthusiastic and dedicated Edenderry GAA supporter and got great pleasure from their Senior Football Championship success in 1985, 1995, '97 and 2001. He worked as a hearse driver for Paddy Larkin, a prominent Edenderry undertaker. Sincere sympathy is extended to Brendan's family and many friends.
