The Late Hugh Mahon
The death occurred on Christmas Eve of Killurin GAA Club's lifelong, President, Mr Hugh Mahon, Killurin. Hugh was a highly respected member of the community and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He took a keen interest in the club's fortunes since its inception in 1985 and he played a prominent role in its establishment and subsequent development.
Hugh came from a strong family tradition in hurling. Perhaps the pinnacle of his hurling career was in 1939 when he played at corner forward for Killeigh when they defeated Banagher, to win the Offaly Junior Hurling Championship for the first time. He played on that successful team with his brothers Mick, Joe and Jimmy.
The measure of his popularity and the esteem in which his family are held was reflected in the very large attendance at the removal of the remains from his home in Killurin and at the subsequent funeral mass and interment in Killeigh, Killurin GAA Club also mounted a Guard of Honour. To his family and relatives the club extends sincere condolences.
