Dublin pip Offaly to book final spot

June 23, 2005
Dublin 2-6 Offaly 1-8 Dublin came from behind to edge out Offaly in an exciting Leinster under 21 hurling semi-final at O'Moore Park on Wednesday night, June 22. Offaly got off to the better start with the accurate finishing of Ciaran Slevin and a well-taken goal from senior player Dylan Hayden giving them a 1-3 to 0-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Dublin improved as the half wore on and a smashing goal from Peadar Carton in the final minute left them just two points, 1-4 to 1-6, in arrears at the interval. On the restart, Alan Egan increased Offaly's lead but they would add only one further point in the second half. That came from Slevin to level matters after Graham Morris' 43rd minute goal had put Dublin in front. A draw looked to be on the cards until Aidan Glennon sent over the winning point to send Dublin through to the final where they will face All-Ireland champions Kilkenny on July 20. Scorers - Dublin: S Mullen 0-4, G Morris, P Carton 1-0 each, M Carton, A Glennon 0-1 each. Offaly: C Slevin 0-4, D Hayden 1-1, A Egan, T Bennett, E Lee 0-1 each.
