Football League titles for Edenderry and Ferbane/Belmont

Edenderry minor footballers are the Offaly Minor Football League Division 1 Champions for 2013 following a comprehensive 5-12 to 3-3 victory over Clara in the final played at Edenderry on Wednesday evening last.

Edenderry were strongly fancied for this game following victories over Rhode, St Broughan's and St Vincent's.

The Reds started the game at a blistering pace and quickly built up a big lead with goals early in the game. They led 3-5 to 1-2 after just 20 minutes of the game and by half time had added a further goal to lead by 12 points on a 4-5 to 1-2 score-line.

In the second half a Clara comeback looked on the cards briefly when they goaled in the first minute however Edenderry quickly steadied the ship to regain control of the game and win comfortably on a 5-12 to 3-3 score-line.

Edenderry team captain Mathew O'Grady then accepted the Minor League Trophy from Mary Dunne, Secretary of Offaly Coiste na nÓg.

Meanwhile, Ferbane/Belmont were crowned U-16 Division 1 Football League winners following a dramatic 3-11 to 2-13 victory over St Vincent's.

And Ferbane/Belmont captain Colin Kenny accepted the spoils of victory from Offaly Coiste na nOg Chairperson Colm Cummins.
