Hurling Championship
The hurlers began the championship with a defeat to Kinnitty in Kinnitty last week. The team went into the game on the back of some good form and with high hopes of overturning the first round defeat to the same opposition last year, but unfortunately things didn't go to plan and the home team emerged victorious again. In a close and somewhat lacklustre first half, with most of the scores coming from placed balls, the sides went in level at 5 points apiece at the break. Killeigh started the second half strongly but wayward shooting, indiscipline and a two Kinnitty goals within the space of a couple of minutes gave the home side an advantage they would never relinquish. Killeigh battled gamely, but, with no clear goal scoring opportunities created, and Kinnitty matching them score for score, time ran out, and when the goal finally came with the last puck of the game it was purely a consolation score. Despite the setback of defeat, there were some positives to be taken from the game, most notably the performance of Shane Dolan, who scored 4 points from play on his championship debut. Team: G McDonald, N O'Rourke K Egan J Sheeran. M Sheeran C Kelly N Mahon. A Plunkett N Cunningham. A Brophy P Horan E Gorman. P Berry K O'Brien S Dolan. Subs Used: M Egan, B Lawlor.
