Dooley, Michael

May 09, 2012
The people of Borris-in-Ossory and surrounding areas were saddened by the death last week of the late Micheal Dooley, Castle Avenue, Derrin, Borris-in-Ossory. His death took place on Thursday April 26th at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. His remains reposed at his residence until removal on Saturday morning to St Canice's, Borris-in-Ossory for funeral mass followed by burial in St Canice's Cemetery, Borris-in-Ossory. A huge crowd attended the funeral to pay tribute to Micheal, a very popular member of the community. A guard of honour was formed by members of the GAA club, the billiard club and his card playing friends. Micheal was a hard working man, well known around the area as a painter and decorator. He loved gardening and his vegetable garden and greenhouse was an admiration, often supplying fresh vegetables to his neighbours and friends.

Micheal hurled with the local club in his young days where his favourite position was in goal. When Borris-in-Ossory won the Junior B final in 1983 against Cullohill, Micheal was the captain of the team. He acted as secretary of the club for many years. He was also a great billiard player and was a committee member of the O'Brien Memorial Hall and the CYMS before that. He loved the game of cards and was one of the organisers of the weekly Progressive 25 Drive in Borris-in-Ossory and also travelled to play cards elsewhere each week.
He is deeply regretted by his loving wife Una, sons Michael and David, daughters Caroline and Elaine, grand-daughter Rayanne, brother Joe, sisters Peg Ward and Bride Lalor, son-in-law, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
