Offaly selector's role for Byrne

November 21, 2012

Former Offaly keeper Stephen Byrne
Former All-Ireland winning goalkeeper Stephen Byrne has been appointed an Offaly hurling selector.

The Kilcormac/Killoughey clubman, who was one of the stars of the Faithful County's famous 1998 backdoor success and served as U21 manager a couple of seasons ago, fills the void left by Paudge Mulhare in manager Ollie Baker's backroom team. Former county star Mark Corrigan will be continuing as the other selector.

Also at last night's county board meeting, Gordon McDonnell and Paul Mollen were ratified as selectors to new Offaly football manager Emmet McDonnell. A brother of Emmet's, Gordon won a Leinster MFC medal with Westmeath in 2000 and will double up as physical trainer.

Ger Coughlan and Aidan Hanrahan will take charge of the Offaly U21 hurlers next year, while JJ Malone has been appointed a selector to new minor football manager Padraig Farrell.
