Kinsella, Tom
January 12, 2012
The death of Mr Tom Kinsella, 50 High Street, Birr, occurred last June.
Tom Kinsella was born in Edgeworthstown, Co Longford on January 1st 1922 to John and Mary Kinsella and was their only child.
They owned a garage, petrol-pumps and shop where they ran their family business. Tom left home and joined the army and was based at Finner Camp, Bundoran, Co. Donegal where he met and married his deceased wife Winifred.
He left the Army and joined CIE, where Tom and his wife lived in Longford, Mullingar and finally settled in Birr with his family until he retired in 1986.
In the 1950s freight was delivered by bus and during that period there was also a conductor with Tom on the bus. When they had to bring bicycles and other commodities, the items were placed on a rack on top of the bus, which was a difficult task when heavy items had to be placed on top of the bus.
Tom also loved a flutter on the horses, playing a game of cards and was a very good neighbour. He had been driving for a number of private bus companies prior to working for CIE. Tom also played minor football with Longford and Edgeworthstown.
Tom sadly passed away suddenly in his home on June 25th, 2011 and is buried in Clongohill Cemetery, Birr with his wife. Deepest sympathy is extended to all his relatives and friends.
