Kenny installed as Offaly skipper
February 08, 2012
My ball as Offaly's David Kenny gains possession ahead of Carlow's Paul Coady.
David Kenny has been named as Offaly's new hurling captain.
In doing so, he becomes the first player from the Belmont club to skipper the Faithful County. The full back, who made his senior debut against Westmeath in 2007, captained Offaly to an extra-time victory over DIT in last Sunday's Walsh Shield final, and new Offaly manager Ollie Baker confirmed afterwards he would be continuing in the role for the rest of the season.
"He is very solid inside in the full back line. He has huge experience and has been around for a number of years. He gives a great confidence to the lads around him. It was a no brainer really that he was going to be there or thereabouts. He is a leader in the dressing room and everyone looks to him. He is a top quality guy", Baker said in this week's Tullamore Tribune.
Kenny who is a key member of NUI Galway's Fitzgibbon Cup squad, takes over the Offaly captaincy from Shane Dooley.
