Farrell, Peter

Edenderry experienced one of its biggest funerals at the weekend following the tragic death of Peter Farrell.
Over 3,000 people visited Peter's house at Clonmullen following his tragic death last Tuesday, September 13. Peter, known as "Pee' was out cycling when he was involved in a motor accident. His removal and burial was the biggest ever seen in Edenderry leading to traffic jams, say experienced observers.

Fr. PJ McEvoy PPwho received the remains, described 'Pee' as "gentle giant" who gave his all to his family, to the GAA, to his employers. He was a big man in every way.

Other clergy at the concelebrated mass were Fr Greg Corcoran, Fr Mark Townsend, Newbridge and retired PP from Carbury, Fr Alf Murphy.
His son, Cillian, paid a moving tribute at the end of the mass and said that the huge attendances over the days since his tragic death were a testament to his father's personality.

"He was a proud Edenderry and Offaly man with a phenomenal work ethic. From his love of farming and going to the Mart, to repairing cars and tractors - he never refused anyone. He served in the fire brigade for twenty seven years. His work took him from Jimmy Mangan's to Shamrock Turf Company and eventually to BNM where he spent thirty-six years.

"He was a devoted father to my brother Naomhan and I and the real love of his life was my mother or 'Peg' as he would say. Married for thirty-seven years they were best friends and she was very much his cornerstone. My father prided himself on being the chief of the clan and he was seen as a pillar of strength."
"We are proud and honoured to have spent thirty-five odd years with him and to us he was simply, Da."
Peter, who celebrated his 60th Birthday in September 2010 was employed with Bord na Mona based at their Ballydermot Works, Rathangan. For many years he was based at Lullymore Briquette Factory, Carbury and was very popular with all his work colleagues.

In his younger days, he played minor and junior football with Edenderry.
He was pre-deceased by his father, John Joe and mother Ann.
He is survived by his wife Peggy, sons Naomhan and Cillian, sisters, Marie and Anne, brothers John, Ger, Eamon, Pat and Martin, grandchildren Cormac and Aisling, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
