Late Michael and Kit Breen, Birr

Well known Birr couple Michael and Kathleen Breen died within two months of each other late last year. They had been married for over 67 years. Kit died on October 3rd last while Mick died on November 27th.
Michael was son of the late Jimmy and Mary Breen. Over the years he worked in the shoe Factory in Birr and in Glennons and he was also a self employed salesman and an office book keeper.
He did a huge amount of voluntary work for the community and was among the founder members of both Birr Credit Union and of Crinkle Handball Club. He was also involved with the development of the swimming pool in Birr.
Kit was daughter of Peter and Annie Hoare. The Breen family had a shop on the Roscrea Road, which she helped to run and she was also a keen gardener.
The couple had been married for 67 years and were devoted to each other and their family.
The breens were always held in high esteem locally, were very good neighbours and they were highly regarded in the community.
They were predeceased by a daughter Maura, who passed away at a young age.
Deepest sympathy is extended to their sons, Michael, Kevin, Brendan and Gabriel, daughters, Kathleen and Ann, relatives and friends. Michael is also survived by her sisters Theresa (Milne), Berry (Corboy), brothers Christ and Raymond and she was predeceased by her sisters, Moll, Trish, and Brothers, John Joe and peter.
Both funerals were held at St Brendan's Church, Birr with burial afterwards in Clonoghill Cemetery.
