Neutral venues for Leinster club finals

November 11, 2009
The Leinster Council has confirmed that this year's provincial club finals will be played at neutral venues. For the last two years, the provincial body decided to play the finals at a home venue of one of the county champions, but it drew considerable criticism from some quarters. Last year, Kilmacud Crokes played all of their Leinster club football championship games in Parnell Park. Indeed, the only game they played outside Dublin en route to winning the All-Ireland title was the All-Ireland semi-final against Corofin of Galway in Mullingar. "We decided even before the draw was made this year that this year's two senior finals would be at neutral venues," Leinster Council secretary Michael Delaney said in the Irish Daily Mirror. "When we reviewed last year's championship, the Leinster Council went with neutral venues for the finals. Offaly proposed that the two finals be played at neutral venues and it was seconded."
