Wall, Tommy

November 13, 2008
There was great sadness in Edenderry last week with the news of the death of Tommy Wall, Fr. Paul Murphy Street. Tommy was sick for a short time and his detah came as a great shock to everybody. He was a most obliging and inoffensive person and was involved in many organisations in the town. Tmmy, a native of Urlingford, Co. Kilkenny came to the town over 50 years ago to wrk for Fay's Department Store, which is now the local Library. He also worked for Kelly's Bakery, Kilcock where he worked for many years. He was deeply involved in Edenderry Credit Union and was very knowledgeable on every aspect of the Credit Union Movement. He visited many schools in the area where he gave lectures on the advantages of the Credit Union to the students. He also served on various committees and he loved the School's Table Quizzes which were part of the role of the Credit Union's Promotion Committee. Tommy was a very strong supporter of GAA, especially hurling and he wore the Red jersey for Edenderry on many occasions. When he was asked many years ago to help out compiling the History of Edenderry GAA, he was delighted to be part of the Research Committee. He was delighted to see the finished book "A tale of the Reds." When he retired from work he soon got involved in Video Camera's and he recorded many an event in the town and surrounding areas and recorded many weddings, first communions, confirmations and family celebrations. With the Edenderry Historical Society, he travelled to many historical sites around the country and recorded many of his travels on film. He was very interested in local history and loved to help out many school children with their Historical Research. He was deeply involved in Edenderry Comhaltas and again he compiled a History of Comhaltas in the town. Members of Edenderry Comhaltas took part in his funeral and played some of his Favourite tunes, including "The Rose of Mooncoin" and "The Offaly Rover". A very large crowd attended his funeral on Thursday at St. Mary's Church and again at his removal to St. Mary's Cemetery. Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Mary, sons, David, Pauric, Deirdre, Caroline, relatives, family and friends. May he rest in peace. - Leinster Leader, 13th November 2008
