Mitchell, Willie
June 07, 2008
It was with sadness and regret that Willie was laid to rest. He had captained the club to its first ever minor title i~i 1 949l having won the previous three with Banagher. He went on to win seven senior hurling championships in 1950, '51, '52, '54, '57, '58 and 1960, as well as representing Offaly with great distinction. But above all he was a wonderful character and a true gentleman. Willie continued to be a great supporter of the club throughout his life and we will miss him greatly. Again, to his family and many friends, we convey our deepest sympathy. There was a representative guard of honour at his removal and a minute's silence was respectfully observed at all games during the weekend. Ar dheis De go raibh a Anam dilis.
