Personally I'd be inclined to base it on more than just where they lie in leagues and championship. The facilities, underage structure, teams, discipline, community involvement, ex players involvement, welcome, history, etc, etc, etc. That's what makes the GAA what it is, not a set of medals or cups although it would also be another one of the defining parts of the equation.

Fair point Davittsman. I started this thread to see what people's opinions are footballing performance at adult level at the minute. Your more than welcome to make you're own list based on the variables you have mentioned. Of the 48 teams listed in my original post how many of them actually won medals last year. The reason I made the thread " Pecking Order of Mayo Club Football" was based purely on overall footballing performances last season and where I feel these teams rank heading into the 2016 season.

By using your analogy all one has to do is look at the league tables and that's it, pure and very simple.

Like I said in my previous post I based my rankings on league & championship performance last season.
Based on the odds I don't believe Ballaghadreen are in the top 4/5 contenders, they operated in 1B last year and at championship level are a team in decline. QF would be a great achievement with the current team.
I think Mitchels are by far and away the number one side in the county, I think Breaffy & Ballintubber occupy the second tier. Garrymore/Knockmore are in the third tier and every other side (8 teams) with the exception of Davitts, Ballyhaunus and Ballinrobe will certainly stay up at the very least.

If that was the logic applied to everything there is no way Ballaghaderreen would have won the championship in 2012. I know if Ballaghaderreen had all their players available and fit and Garrymore likewise and they met in a QF or SF and I had to put my house on the line I know i wouldn't be laying it on the South Mayo boys.

But this is it, Ballaghadereen don't have everyone available. If they did they would be top 4 contenders. As they are right now they are a middle of the road team and I would put my house on Garrymore to beat them based on the players both teams have available at present and their present form.

Who are they missing? Have they had retirements?
